Arm lift

braccia

Often, following a marked loss of weight, a relaxation can occur at the level of the arms, with excess skin. This surplus, particularly visible when arms are raised or extended, extends from the elbow to the armpit. The volume reduction of the arms can be performed simply by liposuction; this happens when the skin is sufficiently flexible and there is too much fatty tissue to be removed.

If it is not sufficient to carry out the liposuction, you can associate surgical removal to adipose tissue. The operation of remodeling the arms will be in this case the dermolipectomy brachial or arm lifting. This surgery is frequently performed under local anesthesia with sedation, but sometimes it can be performed under general anesthesia involving the presence of a scar on the lower part of the arm. In the postoperative period, the patient will have to wear an elastic girdle for 20 days, trying to reduce the amplitude of movement of the upper limb. It is recommended to observe 15 days of relative rest until the removal of stitches, avoiding to wet the wounds. Driving can be resumed only after the surgeon’s approval. It is not recommended to be exposed  to direct sunlight or UV rays for the first month after the surgery and in the following year, it is advisable to apply sunscreen SPF 50+ on the scars.

Possible risks and complications

Arm lift, like all surgeries, can produce complications; these are still rare and if present, they can be solved  through appropriate treatment without compromising the final result.

Insurance

Arm lift surgery can sometimes be performed in agreement with the NHS or with main insurance companies. This is only in case there are certain well-defined conditions, as in case in which there are frequent dermatological local complications, in cases of obesity or previous outcomes in bariatric surgery.
