Lipofilling is a surgery that provides a graft of autologous adipose tissue (ie own) to correct a defective subcutaneous portion or to increase volumetrically small areas of both body and face. It is recommended to correct the volume and profile of your face, your hands and body areas.
This procedure can be recommended in all cases where it is necessary to restore bodily volumes when their size is not excessive, particularly with regard to face, including eye, hands, partly buttocks, the effects of mastoplasty, liposuctions, previous trauma or scarring. It is very useful in bio-stimulation of the dermis and epidermis. Suggested in cases of patients with allergic diathesis or reactions to synthetic fillers.
Preoperative preparation
The patient will have to undergo a medical physical examination and some laboratory tests to assess her health. It is necessary to avoid taking aspirin or medicines that contain
acetylsalicylic acid in the 14 days prior and following the surgery, since this drug reduces the clotting ability and can increase the risk of complications. It is recommended to suspend the 'use of oral contraceptives, diuretics for weight loss at least 30 days before; the same procedure for smoking, 30 days before and after the surgery, since the incidence of complications is 10 times higher compared to non-smokers. Smoking also reduces the percentage of engraftment of adipose tissue in the recipient area.
The surgery
The method involves the removal of adipose tissue from one region of the body (eg, abdomen, hips, trochanter, knee, etc.) and the subsequent replanting of the same, after cleaning up the blood components, in the area that need to be corrected. It can be performed in local anestetsia with no need of any sedation. After the surgery it is necessary to rest and reduce physical activity until the following day. Antibiotics and painkillers will be administered for few days and the dressing in the area of the removal will be removed after 3-5 days. It is recommendable to be in good health without excessive weight loss, otherwise the volume- reduction of fat implant will not succeed. It is apeculiar surgery so that it is likely to perform a second surgery, about 3 months afterwards to replenish the amount of tissue eventually reabsorbed to cope with any minor asymmetries that could be appear (please note that the procedure is an auto transplantation).
Possible complications
It is good to keep in mind that any surgery, however small, limited and performed in the good general condition of patients, always involves the unpredictable possibility of occurrence of complications. Generally speaking, it can be said that for people in good general conditions, whose clinical tests did not demonstrate a change which may increase the risk, the possibility of occurrence of serious or very serious complications is almost theoretical. In any surgery there is a certain degree of risk. The administration of drugs of any kind can produce serious and unpredictable results; all precautions are taken to prevent such situations to treat them if they arise, in order to avoid any consequences, promptly.
Resumption of physical activities
Generally, it takes short time to go back to daily life, 24/48 hours (driving a car, to go to work etc...), a few days to resume sexual activity and, in case, 30 days to go back to sports.
Results
The results of the method are nice, natural, and if well done (with attention to the indications, limitations etc.), almost definitive. You may have a new transplantation after at least three months. The consistency of fat is as unique as the rest of its malleability. Smokers and patients who are not stable in terms of weight or at least all those who suffer from peripheral micro vascular problems have to avoid this operation.
